Kyusu Japanese Teapot - Yohen Sekiryu - 290ml - #6
Kyusu Japanese Teapot - Yohen Sekiryu - 290ml - #6
Handmade in Tokoname, Japan by the Sekiryu Kiln.
Built in ceramic infuser
The colour of this teapot is the natural vermillion of iron rich clay from the tokoname region of Japan. When this clay is fired in the presence of oxygen, the clay turns a beautiful red hue from the iron oxide. When fired without oxygen, oxygen is pulled from the clay and turns the iron a dark black colour. This surface effect here is created by partially burying the pot in rice husks in the kiln. As the rice husks burn away, they pull the oxygen from the clay and leave this organic unique pattern known as yohen (kiln change).
These beautiful teapots are all made in Japan and are typically used for green tea. The smaller size of the pot allows you to pour out the entire infusion so that tea leaves can be easily re-infused numerous times. The side handle makes pouring easy and is also great for people with arthritis. Each pot contains an infuser to keep the leaves out of your cup! These are a great way to make your own tea ritual more personal.
